SPEECH CONTEST
HIGH SCHOOL CONTESTANTS
To encourage the. art of public speaking a speech contest has been instituted in the secondary department. of the, Whalcatane District High 'School, the first competition being held before the assembled pupils on Wednesday morning. The headmaster Mr Hubbard preJ 4 ■ sided and Mr L.. Buddie, acted as judge. The participants and their subjects were as follows: June See.beck Form Sir Stamford RaffFen ton, Form 111 com V) Florence Nightingale; Colin McDonald, Form VA Joseph Stalin; Colleen Stevenson, Form HIAj F. D. Roosevelt; Kathleen Form IV A Queen Victoria; Piatt. Gow f Form VI, Ferdinand Magellan; Jocelyn Form V A, Major-Gen-eral Wingate. Prior to announcing his decision Mr Buddie complimented the speaks ers on their efforts and outlined. some of the points he hac? taken' into consideration in judging. He placed Jocelyn Wilson with June Seebeciv a close second.
