BOROUGH COUNCILLORS RELAX

TOASTS TO THE NEW YEAR

As in the past the City Fathers oi' Whakatane. marked their last meeting for the current year with a light supper and refreshments at the close of the business session last Monday evening. The gesture of goodwill and fellowship was extended to the Borough Foreman and Engineer and the Press, and the atmosphere assumed- a' genuine festive one in which the usual toasts were honoured. The Deputy-Mayor extended the. compliments, of the season to the Mayor and Mayoress and on behalf of the Council asked them both to accept their best wishes for the coming year. The Mayor ? responding drew attention to the heavy programme of work which lay ahead but which he said they could 5 1 tackle with the fullest confidence. He thanked Councillors for their good wishes and complimented them on the splendid spirit of harmony which had prevailed throughout the year.
