PUBLIC CONGESTION
AREA OUTSIDE THEATRE
BRIGADE SUPER! NT EN DENT'S
SUGGESTION
Writing the Borough Council at its meeting last Monday Superintendent. F. H. of the Whakatane Fire. Brigade drew attention to the cramped exit of the Regent Theatre on the Strand. He pointed out that in the event of a hurried exit being necessary at any time, six hundred people endeavouring to make a quick dispersal could easily result in injury to a number of persons. There was a very limited space between the theatre and the roadway which was bounded by a cycle rack, and the taxi stand. He suggested that a fire area should be created as in front of I he. (J rand Theatre where no parking was permitted at any time. The Council agreed with, the suggestion and referred the matter to the. Works Committee.
