PERMIT REFUSED
NEW BUSINESS PREMISES
REPLACING BURNT SHOP I The Whakatane. Borough Council has supported the. application of. Whakatane Amusements Ltd. for a permit for the construction of a modern shop to replace the building on the Strand which was burnt down three years ago. Notification of the Controller's refusal to grant a permit was discussed by the couivcil at its meeting last Monday. The Controller's letter stated that at the present time there was so much essential construction em--9 bracing hospital additions and home building in the Bay of Plenty that it was found impossible to grant a permit for a shop. There was also great difficulty in finding the. necessary timber and labour and it was suggested that, a further application should be made in nine months time. . The Company sought the co-opera-tion of the Borough Council in recognition of its claims, over a per-i iod of three years when no revenue had been received from the prem-' ises. The Council decided to give- the fullest possible assistance, to the Company in its representations.
