WOMAN TAXI DRIVER
INCIDENT AT TE TEI^O
The Transport Department (In-, spector Doggett) proceeded against Rangi Edwards, a Maori woman who was charged with, driving a taxi at Te Tcko on September 25 without the necessary license to do so. The case was heard before Mr E. L. Walton in the. Whakatanc Magistrate's Court last- Tuesday. Mr Otley defended said that defendant's husband was actually; the taxi driver-owner of. the service and in his absence a ring had been, received for a paying passenger to make a short trip. Defendant had decided to take the risk and answer the call herself.
Inspector Doggctt said at the time he intercepted her there were two passengers in the car. Defendant had already made two applications to the County Council for the right to hold'a license, but this had been, refused. She had been warned picviously. ' Fined 20s and costs 275. Tautc Edwards husband of the defendant was charged with being the owner of the car ? he had assisted in the commission of an offence. Fined 20s and costs 275.
