FLOOD DAMAGE
QUESTION OF GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY | BOROUGH SEEKS RE-CONSIDERA-TION Under the terms of the subsidy promised by the P.W.D. to the Borough Council to offset the damage caused by the recent flood, it will be. necessary for that local body to spend no less than £1328 in order to receive the sum of £230 from the Government. Discussing the matter at last Monday's meeting the Mayor (Mr B. S. Barry) said that already the Council had spent £(i4B from the general account and £213 from the electrical. The Works Committee was far from satisfied with the present position and would like a further interview with the P.W.D. officer to re-dis-cuss the matter.
The Council decided that- the offer of subsidy is considered to be quite unsatisfactory; .that an appointment be made with the District Public Works Engineer and that this question be further discussed with him as a preliminary to further representations.
