SHORT MEMORY
ARMISTICE OBSERVANCE
INDIFFERENT CROWDS
"I want to say how very disgusted I was at the manner in which the people in the town observed Armistice Day last Saturday" said the Mayor (Mr B. S. Barry) at last Monday evening's meeting of the Borough Council. "During the whole of the two minutes silence following the sounding of the siren, people just carried on as and the traffic continued down the Strand. In the middle of the period, a large truck started up from the kerb opposite my office. There did not seem to be any effort made to observe the silence or to give a thought to its
meaning."
O Shapley said he had notice'd the same thing. People simply went about their usual business. It was hard to with so many of our boys still fighting overseas, how easily people forget the significance of just two minutes silence. t
Mr Barry said he had introduced the matter in order that it might be given publicity.
