CONFERENCE WITH ARCHITECT

CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

Reporting to the Whakatane Hospital Board last Thursday on his interview Avith the Departmental .Architect. Mr L. Buddie v the chair- ? '5 . man stated that since the decision to abandon the twin storey project it was obvious that, the question of site Avas one of the main points to lie finalised.

It was now suggested that an independent block of 20 beds lie erected on the site of the present isolation wards which could be moved further back. The block would continue in a westerly direction and facing north. A covered way Avas suggested from the main institution to the eastern end. Steps Avould have to be taken to remove the septic tanks, and it was agreed that a new service should be installed. Provision would also be. made for two water-heating units. The AAthole cost would be carried 100 per cent' by the Department.

Mr Buddie pointed out that the whole, of. his discussion with the architect AA-as tentatiA'e and that

the architect would make his recommendations to the Board which would reply in due course. Full and final details- would therefore bq coming before the Board later on but in A 7 ieAV of the interest of members in the subject he had outlined the proposals as they had been discussed.
