RURAL HOUSING SCHEME

FARM WORKERS ACCOMMODATION The Rural Housing Scheme which is being organised through the Primary Production Council is meeting with a i* ir reception. Numerous applications have been received and they have gone forward to the Construction Department lor their attention. The accommodation most sought after are the types B (double unit) and C (married quarters) . These are surplus Army buildings and can either be purchased or hired. Several applications have, been made for the permanent houses ) financial assistance for which can be arranged with the State Advances Corporation at 4 x /i> per cent loan } principal and interest. All the. work necessary to erect them on farms will be carried out by the Housing Construction Department. The buildings are supplied to the farmer complete and ready for occupation. The scarcity of workers' accommodation is acute and the prospect of any improvement is unlikely until industry returns to more normal conditions. The opportunity to take advantage of this offer will remain open until Uie end of November so any farm: I .* desirous of. further information on the subject should immediately communicate with any of the Council's committeemen or the Secretary.
