LOCAL PROSECUTIONS A VARIED LIST The usual list of traffic offenders was dealt with by Mr E. L. Walton S.M. in the Wha- ' » katane Magistrate's Court last Tuesday morning. Vernon Henry Kemp (Mr Otley) who was charged with operating his car without the correct lights pleaded guilty. Sergeant Farrell said the proceedings were the result of a serious collision which resulted in a motor cyclist being extensively injured. Mr Otley said that it had been the. practice in Whakatane to leave cars unlighted in the street and further the street concerned •J Avas a A'ery deceptive. ..one. Fined 20s and costs 12s. Edwin Joseph Bell was charged Avith being the driver of a motor vehicle in King Street, he attempted to pass a bicycle without due care and attention. Mr Avho defended, claimed that the avoman cyclist concerned had failed to the requisite s-ign and had swung in front cf tl\e defendant sharpley. \ Fined 20s and costs 20s. Ratanji Daliya (Mr Suckling) was charged with failing to keep to the left on the roadway. According to accused defendant admitted that the lights of the oncoming car had blinded him so that he had lost his sense of direction, Avhich resulted in a slight collision. Fined 20s and costs- 225. The County Traffic Inspector proceeded against Albert Drummond Wilkins owner of a heavy motor 5 A'ehicie which ay as unlicensed. Fined 5s and costs 22s Gd. Failure to possess a current W.O.F. cost Joseph Ernest Skeene of Murupara 10s and 20s Gd costs. For a similar offence "Horace Alexander Richardson was fined 10s and costs 20s. The Transport Department (Inspector Doggett) proceeded against Tom Hetawa for failing to possess both a W.O.F. and a current driver's license. Fined 10s and 25s costs on the first charge and 5s Avith 15s costs on the second charge.
