LIQUOR FROM TANEATUA FOUR MAORIS FINED The theft of a case of liquor from the Taneatua Hotel on the evening of August 26 resulted all told in something like a dozen prosecutions by the police agains-t a number ol Maoris. The last group came before Mr E. L. AValton in the Whakatane Court last Tuesday when Hemi Kupi Hawera Taari Biddle ~ Te Whiti Amai and Koona Timoti were charged witli assisting some person unknown in the committal of an offence -by supplying them with liquor in the prescribed Matatua area. Constable Tliomassen of said that the defendants were all from Ruatoki } and had been party to the offence to receiving and consuming the liquor. The case had actually been unloaded at Te Whiti Amai's home. All the defendants had admitted their offence. All were fined 4.0s witli costs ranging from 27s to 255.
