UNITED DEFEAT PONGAKAWA KEEN WEEK-END MATCH After no cricket for two consecutive weeks owing to rain, cricketers were favoured with beautiful weather over the week-end and an en« joyable match was played between Pongakawa and AVhakatane United. United took first use of the wicket but suffered an early dismissal when Cameron was taken nicely behind the Wickets with only one run on the. board. However McKenzie was joined by Fisher and the pair proceeded to consolidate their team's position, the partnership realised 72 runs in quick time, when McKenzie retired with half a century to his credit. The uncanny batsman was Knights who attacked the bowling from the start and had 14 to his credit, when he was caught at square leg. Fisher was bowled at 35 when attempting a big and Rigdon was unlucky to go l.b.w. on reaching double figures in nice fashion. The latter batsmen did not use theii feet to the, slow bowler and did not get many. Johns hit a boundary but was caught shortly afterwards and the innings closed with 132 on the board. Of the bowlers Hickson a slow left, bander secured the best average with 5 for 38. Pongakawa took strike but were uncomfortable from the start, and could not settle down against the steady bowling. Rigdon used seven bowlers all of Avhom performed creditably. Langworth Avas the only batsman to reach double figures and the innings closed at 50. !
