MASQUERADE BALL
SUCCESSFUL GUIDE EVENING
Varied and colourful costumes were the order of the evening at the informal masquerade ball which was held in. the Caledonian Hall on Saturday evening by the local Guide troop. Something approaching 100 guides and visitors were present and the whole atmosphere was one of Youth enjoying itself. The evening commenced with a Grand March which was led by Miss Marjorie Reardon and Malcom Law in which the many different costumes were seen to the best advantage. Dancing commenced immediately after, and all present made the most of the excellent music supplied by the Colin Wallace Combination. Mr Hurst was in charge of the proceedings as Master of Ceremonies, and made s.ure that there wer e no' dull moments. Novelty dances took the form of a Spot. Max'ina and an Envelope Danee } the latter, in particular proAiding an endless amount of. fun and amusement, as the lucky ones (or rather unlucky ones) performed the tasks ordered by their draw from the envelope. During the evening several items were given these taking the form of a vocal number, "Song of the Islands'' by Anne Littlejohn, a pianoforte duet by Anne Goodwin and Jocelyn Wilson, and a Maori item by a. group of Guides. The. unmasking took place at 9 p.m. and three prizes, were awarded -to those who had succeeded ! in keeping their identity concealed for the longest period. These went to Pauline Chadwick, Errol Petty (both dressed as and Allan Runciman who lepresented "Departed Spirits."
Supper was served towards the close of the. evening and the Guides made a splendid job of the task of feeding the multitude.
Dancing concluded at midnight one and all having had a thoroughly enjoyable time.
