BOWLING SEASON OPENS

GOOD PROSPECTS FOR WHAKA-

TANE

Though threatening weather prevailed till noon y last Saturday the local Bowling fra'ternity was favoured by splendid! bowling weather in the; afternoon when the postponed opening of the new season took pi ace with nil the- traditional trappings and good fellowship. Bowlers from Te Puke and Taneatua took part in the friendly games and from all oiitward appearances the club has once more a prospective good season ahead y with a full membership and excellent appointments.

The president Mr" Lcs Littlejohn, extended a formal welcome to the visitors and expressed the hope that one and all would have an enjoyable season. Referring to the work of the ladies committee, he said he would take the. opportunity of publicly thanking them for the splendid work they had carried out in catering for the tournament last Easter. Whakatane was fortunate in having the services of such willing helpers. Mrs Littlcjohn then rolled up the first 'jack' and the season w'as clared open. The ladies committee attended tc the afternoon tea arrangements and came up fully to the recognised high standard of past bowling functions when the refreshments have been declared A.I.
