GAY AWAKERI EVENING
WIDE DISTRICT SUPPORT
One. of those bright dance evenings for Avhich Awaken is now be-> coming" well-known took place in the interests of the local scout troop last Tuesday evening. The hall was ■well lilled and the occasion attracted many from AVhakatane.
A mixture of modern and oldtime, steps gave the long dance programme plenty of variety and zest while music of a high order was: provided by the Premier Dance Band. Scouts were present in large numbers and special dances for their benelit proved to be popular items. Prior to the very sumptuous supper the District Scout Commissioner was introduced to the gathering by the. chairman of the local committee Mr Norman Carter. Alter a few brief words of appreciation for the remarkable, support shown the Awakeri troop the Commissioner then handed Scoutmaster T. Howell his warrant as oll'icial officer 'in charge of the. Awakeri boys. He then presented badges Won by a dozen of tlie lads who were drawn up in a horse-shoe before him. The little ceremony terminated with three cheers for S.M. T. Howell. Supper was attended to bj r a capable ladies' committee and served by the, scouts. The dance was A signal sn •cess from beginning to end tind included numerous novelty dances and Monte Carlo 'waltzes. • The .sprightly atmosphere wa< due in no small measure to the. M.C. Mr W.
