CROQUET

NEW SEASON OPENS

On Saturday afternoon, October 14 ? the Whakatane Croquet Club officially opened their greens. Members and visitors were welcomed' by the Mrs J. Creeke, who wished all a very pleasant day and paid tribute to the wonderful work done by the greerikeeper, Mr Hourigan ; in getting the lawns in such good order. Mrs Creeke then called on Mrs Baxter the oldest to play the first ball and declare the lawns open. Progressive, crequet was played till afternoon tea. The winners of the trophies were Mesdames Bur-> gess and Schofield. After a dainty afternoon tea had been served by the menibers com-* petitions were played. The were: Ladder Croquet and Bell Competition: Mrs Coiner; Peg CorapetU tion: Mrs J. Creeke. Pretty shoulder sprays were presented to the President, and] Secretary by Mrs King.
