URGENT WORK
UNDERTAKINGS IN THE BAY
Attention to urgent work was drawn by Mr W. Sullivan (Nation-* Bay of Plenty) when the Public Works Estimates, were under discussion in the House of Representatives. Mr Sullivan said there were se.v-> cral unbridged streams on the Opo-tiki-Te Aroha road; and there was one particularly dangerous crossing near Opotiki. It held up traffic sometimes for a couple of days at a time. He had been told that steel from the old bridge at Tolaga Bay was lying on the roadside, waiting to be used to bridge the. stream near Opotiki. Some effort should be made to get on with the job. The Minister of Works (Mr Semple): Those jobs are, marked down. Mr Sullivan said there were several other crossings all needing attention and there was no excuse J for holding them up. Mr Semple: We will get on with those, little, jobs very shortly. Mr Sullivan supported the request for the application, of the petrol tax to its original purpose on the main highways.
