FATAL ACCIDENT
TRUCK GOES OVER BANK
WAIOHOU MAORI KILLED
A fatality in which an elderly Maori farmer of Waiohou Rua ' Hiki, lost his occurred abouft seven miles from Te Teko last Saturday night about 7 p.m. The deceased who was driving a truck upon which were two other Maoris Hohepa Hakarau; and Jimmy Monu had been into Whakatane and was returning ...home when it is stated that the lights suddenly failed as the vehicle was' rounding a bend* The truck carried on and left the road before Hiki hadi time to appliy the brakes and' went over the bank. When it came to rest after a short drop, the deceased was pinned underneath the vehicle and when finally extricated by his two com'* panions was found to be dead. The. other two Maoris escaped with minor injuries, an;! the truck was only slightly damaged. An inquest was opened for identification purposes before the newly appointed District Mr T. J. Cummings, on Sunday, wlien it was stated deceased was a married man, aged 54 years. The hearing was then adjourned sine. die.
