ACCIDENT SEQUEL
MOTOR CYCLIST AND STATIONARY CAR NIGHT COLLISION RECALLED
An accident on the night of September 12 which was apparently due directly to an unlighted car being parked on the road!way found st'quel in the Whakatane Court lapt Tuesday when Ronald Ashley Duley, the was charged with driving his motor cycle without due care and attention. Defendant who pleaded not guilty was defended by Mr B. S. Barry. Constable Moore described, the scene of the accident which, he said occurred on the abrupt corner of Crete and Salonika Streets, the defendant having apparently ridden into' the rear of a dark painted car which was parked on the side, of the road. It was a very dark night and defendant had informed him that he was testing the machine and listening to the engine. The defence was, that Duley had exercised the fullest, care and attention having been proceeding at a bare 25 m.p.h. but the; swing of the headlamp had failed to pick up objects until a wide arc had been owing to the abrupt nature of. the corner. This contention was supported by Inspector Dogget who' described the corner and said that there had been many complaints regarding the parking of vehicles on the road outside Government, houses due to the fact that no garages could be erected.
Defendant was and ordered to pay costs 10s.
