THE FLY MENACE
LOCAL CONTROL MEASURES SPRAYING OF RUBBISH TIP
A lengthy report from the local Health Mr A. R. on question of greater control measures to combat the fly nuisance, and thereby make for a better standard of public health was received by the Whakatane? Borough Council at its meeting on Monday evening. The council decided to offer its fullest co-operation ? to adopt the measures set out, and to reprint 500 copies of 'the circular submitted by the Inspector.
Discussing the suggestion that the council should spray the rubbish up in order to prevent the breeding of vermin the Mayor said that Mr 9 9 Knights had gone to a considerable amount of trouble in this connection and it was up to the council to do something. It was on the cards that following the present war there would be the, danger of epidemics, and the Inspector was doing a good job in a courteous way.
"If we are s< citing to control the breeding of flies we should first of all look to our sanitary arrangements" said Cr Greeke.
"You can't put it all down to the dump and rubbish,'' declared Cr Canning. "T*i my place up at Lake Rotoma Avbere there is nothing but' bush and beautiful mountain air, the blowflies are thick."
