CO-OPERATION
DISTRICT FARMERS UNITE
ASSISTING SOLDIER SETTLERS
One of those neighbourly actions which help so much to restore one's faith in humanity occurred recently at. Awaken, when a number of district farmers in order to assist the soldier settlers now farming on Cressey's block turned out with tractors and implements, and ploughed disced, rolled and sowed some 27 acres of ground in order to ensure that the men from overseas would have a flying start with a new stand of grass for the coming dairy season.
The gesture which reminds us forciblj r of the early pioneering days was organised by Mr Jim Newdic'k. District farmers, were, in ready assent with his scheme as it was
obviously impossible Tor the .soldier settlers Avho had just arrived to lind the necesary time and equipment to lay down the grass before, tlie sowing season was over.
Thus at came about that a dozen farmery by their combined efforts, were able, within a comparatively short period to complete the whole job at no cost to the new arrivals who will be able to make a flying start in the new season.
