Labour Registry Fees

A complaint, that extortionate fees were being charged by persons operating labour registry offices was made in the, Hoilse of Representatives by Mi- P. Carr (Government, Auckland West). He gave notice of question to ask the Minister of In-» dUstrie& and Commerce whether he • would take steps to ensure that, such fees would be drastically reduced. « Mr Carr said he had in his possession, a letter from a sharemilker stating that he was charged a fee of £3 3s for an introduction to a farmer who required a sharemi,l'ker. Mr Carr saiG the farmer was charged a similar amount. The interview lasted 15 minutes and on the fees charged worked out at the rate of £25 4s an hour.
