VICTORY LOAN

DISTRICT QUOTA REDUCED

TOTAL OF £31,509 TO HAND-

lii view of the increased 1 subscriptipns to the Victory Loan by National Institutions the target set for the district has been, reduced by 10 per cent making it approximately £99,000. Whakatane district "subscriptions to the Loan up to last "week-end amounted to £34 f SO9 # an increase of approximately £10,000 over the amount subscribed a week earlier. This figure however is still far fromi the target of which has been set this district as its allocation. The latest analysis shows' the Thames-Bay of Plenty area to have found 55 per cerit of its allocation placing it 17th on the list of the Dominion's twentyone postal districts. Figure® for Whakatane are made up as follows:— Whakatane: Bonds £2917; National Savings £4108; Stock 825. Total £28,850. Matata: Bonds £6; National Savings £300; Slock £300. Total £606 Taneatua: Bonds £210; National Savings £295; Stock £2355. Total £2860; Te Teko: Bond's £4,88; Naitional Savings £325; Stock £1380. Total £2193. All must realise that the Loan MUST be successful otherwise * the Government may be forced to h'ave recourse to the Reserve Bank # which would undoubtedly have inflationary lor to obtain the mongy by increased taxation. There should be no necessity for' this' if all /were to make 'the effort. The money ist being loaned 1 at a satisfactory rate of interest and is not being given to the Government. This district and town are showing up badly in the effort and it is up to us to show a lift tie more prid'e in ourselves and make the final effort a strong one, during the next two days.
