LOCAL AIRMAN'S AWARD FLT/LIEUT. H. C. CARTER Mr and Mrs Norman of iAwakeri, have received notification of their son's Fit/Lieut! Hubert ■Cameron Carter's decoration of the Distinguished Flying Cross i< from the Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones. 'Hon' as he is known to his was. born in this district, was educated at the Whakatane High School and %lassey and is now 27 years- of age. He will be remembered as a keen footballer, ihaving represented Rangitaiki, Mas- ' sey College, Manawatu and the North Island Varsity team. He enlisted on the outbreak of war, and achieved his wings in 1940. His "was one of the first squadrons from this country to operate on Guadalcanal. Prior to that date he was instructing at Ohakea for some and as a result his address in the ' -citation has, been given as Feilding svhexe-he resided for some time. He is at present on duty in the Pacific. His wife resides at Drury. Our warmest congratulations go t© the members of the Carter family on the: distinction which has come to them.
