HOME ONCE MORE
Kind hearts are waiting Mingling hopes and fears; Kind hands are shaking Kind eyes filled with tears*. Old friends who knew them Stand on the homeland shore Waiting to welcome the wandering boys Home once more. Brave boys returning Ne'er will be the same Their forms and minds suffering From war's searing flame. Scenes they have witnessed Deeds they have done Cast sombre shadows Across life's smiling sun. Will monuments of graven stone Ever sufficiently alone,? A grateful nation's answers—nay! Nothing ever will repay The debt free men and nations owe To those who've bourne; war's b.'ler woe,. ' ; Those who the needful aid withhold Retain the dross and lose the gold Of the immortal standard formed of old By hijn that bitter hatred slew "Love others as ye would They should love you.'' H.. SERGANT.
