A REPERCUSSION
PAID HOLIDAYS INCREASES
COSTS
At the last meeting of the Whakatane County Council, the Clerk reported that the Annual Holidays Act 1944, was now in. operation. Wages expenditure recovered by the. Council from ratepayers, contractors and other local bodies amounted, in the
last tliAe years to £2560 Is 2d. The position now was- that a permanent labourer, without overtime received £267 lis 8d per annum, and Council's costs for holidays and insurance amounted to £25 0s Id. A bulldozer driver's similar earings were £366 18s 4d, and Council's costs for holidays and insurance amounted to £31 9s 6d. This represented a considerable "on cost" and he recommended that all recoverable wages expenditure be increased by 12% per cent to cover insurance holidays wet weather 'J " '3* j tools and administration.
The Council decided that as from 1/10/44, on all recovered wages for holidays etc. 12% per cent and that Main Highways Board be asked to add 10 per cent to all wages to cover holidays wet wea*ther and tools.
