REMOVAL OF WATCH
MAORI PLEADS GUILTY
SUBSTANTIAL. FINE IMPOSED
When Pat Paruru a young married man, who is sharemilking at T& Teko visited a friend's place at on May 6 last ? he was apparently unable to resist removing a wristlet watch which he saw reposing on a cream stand. This thoughtless action cost him a £10 fine in the Whakatane Court last Wednesday, when he appeared before Messrs Brabant and Gumming®, JiP'st
The owner of the watch Reuben
Ka'ko, subsequently recognised the watch in possession of. a Maori boy to whom Paruru had given and was thereby able to trace the. theft.
Accused who had hitherto borne a good said he could give no reason for his action other than that he thought the watch might get smashed and had removed it ( intending to return it later. He added that he was milking a large herd and that in the. event of a term of imprisonment the owner would have the. greatest difficulty in replacing him.
A fine of £10 was imposed and an order made for the return of the watch.
