hope still entertained

THERE can be no doubt that the whole of the Borousrh, and a big percentage of the district residents as well are watching the outcome of the new approach by the Bor ough Council to the County Council on the question of jointly investigating the possibilities of a district aerodrome. This is not a subject from which there should be any undue shrinking from facts and possibly the more the communities of both town and country can get together on the subject, the better will be the mutual under standing and ultimate outcome. The broad fact remains that this fertile and progressive district cannot afford to b© without an aerodrome in the fast-approaching post-war period of economic and commercial expansion. I£ is no eecret also that the subject of 'rates' under almost any heading, but particularly for public utilities, is like a red rag to a bull as far as the average farmer is concerned today. These two facts have to be recognised before the essential ground for mutual consideration can be reached,, and only by conference can unanimity of purpose be achieved. It is to be urgently hoped that such a conference will take place between our leading local bodies, and further that it will lead to the investigation and tentative programme of campaign for which so many people are waiting. The question of finance or direct responsibility need not be shouldered by any one party at this juncture, but it is all important that all the information and facts, an aerodrome be collected and considered immediately.
