TOWN WATER SUPPLY
GREAT interest attaches to the proposal to introduce an auxiliary water supply scheme for Whakatane by the damming of the Maraetotara Stream on the lower reaches ot Hillcrest, and the Borough Council will receive popular! endorsement for its action in authorising its own officers to investigate, and formulate the proposal. One 01 the most vexed questions confronting the citizens of this town for many years has been the limited and unsatisfactory nature of. the existing water supply from the river. The new scheme should make it possible to overcome the ST problem, obtain a better fall, and guarantee a permanent supply for all-the-year-round purposes.
