QUICK REPAYMENT MADE
COUNTY COUNCIL GRATIFIED
The rapid manner in which the Otakiri settlers repaid the debt out* "j standing on their hall was com* mented upon by County Councillors v-.-v Inst Tuesday when the County Clerte ; veported that of the total advance of £547 16s 9d the Hall Committee had repaid £280. The present posit* tion of the account was:— f Original advance made in 1943 £547 16s 9d. 4 Repaid by rate. 1943/44 £142 19s B<L, * Repaid by Hall Committee 11/8/44, £280—£422 19s. Bd. : Balance £124 17s 1d... With the payment of the current ■'.£ year's rate, the hall advance would be fully repaid. * ■-■;•; The chairman (Mr J. L. Burnett) £ remarked that the effort of Otakiri , with its comparatively small com* '"■ * muni-ty was a stirring example of what might be done elsewhere. W_ The Council decided to extend it* congratulations to the committee and request that these sentiments be conveyed to the residents in gen* eral. *
