County Dog Registration During the month of July the County Ranger has registered 138 dogs making a total of 2285' registered for the year to date. Planting Hillcrest Cemetery Over 500 hedge plants and young trees have been planted by the ough Council works staff on the new cemetery at Hillcrest. Eighty young trees have also been planted on the Borough works depot, boundary. Injury to Foot An accident occurred on Saturday at Te Teko when Darkie Cable, aged 16 years who is employed at Lyme's Bush Camp cut his loot on an axe. He was admitted to the Whakatane Public Hospital Avhere his condition is now reported to be satisfactory. Fir this reason the letter was received. Abandoned Dog An unclaimed fawn and white pomeranian dog at Edgecumbe was the cause of considerable concern at the County Council meeting last Tuesday. The Ranger reported that the owner had been traced to Rotorua but had stated that he had given the dog to a lorry driver who had apparently not collected it. The Council decided to give the ownei 14 days to dispose of the dog before further action, was taken.

National Day of Prayer His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral has received the following message from the private secretary to the King: "The King has appointed Sunday, September 3, to be a National Day of Prayer and Dedication in the United Kingdom." TJie Governor-General hopes that, this day may also be observed as a National Day of Prayer and Dedication in New Zealand, and, with) this in view, His Excellency is inviting the co-operation of the churches throughout the Dominion. Infant's Body at Waiotahi The discovery of a baby's body in a sack on the Waiotahi Beach, was made by a nearby resident last Friday and the police, the coroner and a doctor were called to the spot to carry out an examination. The sack bore no markings and the mouth was not tied when discovered. The body was that of a well developed baby girl, born two or three days ago. The skull appeared to have been knocked although this may have been caused by the body's movement in the water. It was difficult to ascertain whether the body was that of a Maori or European child, or whether the child breathed after birth. The district coroner, Mr F. J. Short, has ordered a post mortem to be carried out, and an inquest will be held.
