SACRED HEART DEFEATS BAY A GAME IN THE MU.D

The annual match Let ween Sacred Heart College and the Bay of Plenty High Schools representative team was played at Tauranga last Saturday. Unfortunately rain fell throughout the game, and spoilt what would otherwise have be,en an exhibition of football at its best. As it was the game largely resolved itsell' into a dour forward struggle. In the set scrums the hooking of the visiting forwards was a model of precision—they had the ball out to their half-back with unfailing regularity and speedj and they also heeled well from the loose. Howere, when the - ball did get into the hands of. the backs, passing movements usually broke, down through inability to handle it. Sacred Heart's first try was the result of a brilliant cut-in by the first fiveeighths which enabled the second to score. Towards the end of the game the Bay forwards carried play on to Sacred Heart's line ? but in spite of a succession of scrums failed to score. Then their opponents broke, away. In a matter of seconds play was on the other goal li ne ? and Sacred Heart scored between the posts. They were able to convert their try, the game ending .shortly afterwards with the score B—o8 —0 in their favour,
