Simpkin Street Drain A letter from a ratepayer in Simpkin Street requiring the Borough Council to pipe and seal and open drain now traversing his property was referred by the Council last Monday to the Municipal Association for a legal opinion. The mattfcr of inspecting the drain was referred to the Works Committee to report back. A La Masonic A .smile went round the Council table lost Monday 5 when Cr Cree.ke was endeavouring in a particularly forccful manner to emphasise the needs of the children's playing apparatus in the town park. Drawing himself up to his full height (6ft OH in) Cr Creeke fixed the Mayor with his eye. "And now ( Worshipful Master," he declared with emphasis—he got no further. The amusement of liis brother councillors told him only too eloquently the faux pas he had committe.d. A Serious Position When reporting on the state of the pumps which operated at the reservoir supplying the towii ( the Borough electrical engineer ) Mr F. W. Lysaght, did not attempt to disguise the .seriousness of the present position at the Borough Council meeting last Monday. Unless a new system was introduced it would be necessary to order a new pump immediately. One of the existing pumps was in a bad state of repair and the other one Avould also deteriorate in a comparatively short time unless replaced.
