WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
WHAKATANE GROUP MEETS
The August meeting of the Institute was held at the Methodist Hall on August 1, In the abscnce of tho president Mrs L. Sisara presided over a good attendance of members. The meeting opened with the singing of the Ode to followed by the Aspirations. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The winner of the shopping bag was Miss liiddell of Matata. The Golden Thread travel talk was given by Mrs Guest on the Chatham Islands, and proved very interest-? ing. The Roll Call for Economical Recipes was poorly responded to. The Drama Circle gave a half-hour play reading entitled "Meeting Her Match " which was much enjoyed by all present. Two new members were welcomed to the Institute. On behalf of the Institute and the Garden Circle two trees were to be donated to the Beautifying Society. Mrs Sutcliffe reported, on the packing and despatching of the Institute's quota of soldiers' parcels. Mrs Sisam welcomed two visitors from other Institutes. Schedules were distributed for the Flower Show to be held at the September meeting. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. The monthly competitions result' cd as follows: A s Italian Quilting: Mrs Larsen 1; Mrs Moran 2. B, 3 Iceland poppies: Mrs Comer 1; Mrs Hepburn 2. C, 3 leeks: Mrs Hannah 1. The meeting closexl with the singing of the National Anthem.
