Woman in House of Lords "Nowadays we even sit in the House of Lords," said Dr. Edith Summerskill, British Labour M.P. when addressing Christchurch women and recalling the progress of her sex in recent years. That was due, she remarked, to the fact that the chamber of the House of Commons had been blitzed. Dr Summerskill cla'imed to be the first woman to t&ke her seat in the Peers" Chamber. "It was Hitler who put me there!" she declared, amid laughter. Prevention of Distemper Dog owners who wish to have their dogs inoculated against distemper should have the. 'inoculation done by qualified veterinary surgeons, who are the only, practitioners to whom the special vaccine for this purpose is being made alailable by the Government. This suggestion was made at Christchurch by Mr E. Martin, M.R.C.V.S. who said that it was absolutely impossible to" obtain any vaccine for the inoculation of dogs against distemper except from the Animal Research Laboratory at Wallaceville. - Seryicemens' Welcome Home A social and dance to welcome home, all servicemen returned from overseas is being held on Wednesday 23rd August in the Winter Show Buildings. Invitations have already been sent, to 76 returned servicemen but the secretary feels that some may have been missed owing to the fact that- there, is no official list available. Anyone knowing of a serviceman who has returned to the district (Borough and County) during the past, four or five months and who has not received an invitation to the social and dance is requested to advise the secretary, Mr R. Morpeth as soon as possible.
