WAIMANA-NUKUHOU W.I.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS The Waimana-Nukuhou Women's Institute celebrated its 15th birthday last Wednesday afternoon in the Waimana Hall. Mrs Wylde presided over a very good attendance, of members and visitors from surrounding Institutes. After the singing of the "Ode to Friendship" and the hymn "O God, Our Help in Ages Past" the president welcomed all and expressed the hope that a most en'joyable afternoon would eventuate. The minutes of the previous me.eting were read and confirmed, and correspondence dealt with. An invitation to officers and members to the birthday of the Waiotahi W.I. was received. The president then presented "Good Service Badges" to four members M,rs Hewitt, Mrs F. Bell, Mrs M. King and Mrs F. J. Savage. On behalf of the recipients Mrs Savage thanked the president and members for the honour bestowed on them. This concluded the business for the afternoon. A competition, arranged by Mrs McConnell, securing the most signatures was won by Mrs Gardner. Mrs Stansbury then entertained with a recitation entitled 'Aunt Cheerful," which was greatly enjoyed. Members of the, Drama Circle then presented a sketch "The Four Seasons," the players receiving a great ovation at the conclusion. A vocal item was rendered by Mrs November and a musical recitation was also presented by Mis.s N. Mitchell, both being well received. A competition, guessing the weight

iof the birthday cake, was won. by I Mrs Heather and the lucky tea-cup was held by Mrs Moore. The decorated birthday cake was made and. donated by Mrs H. Ward-, law and took pride of place at afternoon tea. The president called on Mrs Hewitt and Mrs King to light the candles, Mrs Bell to extinguish them and Mrs Savage to* cut the cake , . A hearty vote of thanks was extended to Mrs Ward law, and to those who contributed towards the afternoon's entertainment, and the afternoon tea. The Singing of the National Anthem closed the function.
