MAIZE PRODUCTION
NEW REGULATIONS
Mr R. G. C. Ffitch of the Internal Marketing Department, after meeting the Gisborne growers was in Whakatane, on Tuesday for the purpose of discussing with the maize committee new regulations governing the marketing of maize which will come into operation at an early date. A maize board comprising the directors of Agriculture and the Internal Marketing Division, two representatives from the maize growers, two representatives fiom the Grain Merchants Association and one from a consuming district are to be set up. The functions of the Board will be to act in an advisory to the, Minister in all matters of marketing, production and importation. Three names have been submitted to the Minister for his selection of one member to represent the growers in this district. Messrs McCrackcn, Sisam and Alexander Ave re appointed delegates to represent the growers at the Price Stabilisation Commission at a meeting next Avcck. The area of maize required from the Wliakatane district is 2400 acres. This will bring the production to the level of the 1940-41 season.
