WELCOME HOME DANCE

A jolly dance was held recently | in the Waimana Hall to welcome 1 home several soldiers who have returned from the Pacific. There was a very good attendance of dancers from near and surrounding districts. Mr H. Spanhakc made a most capable M.G. and the dance music was played bv Mr and Mrs King, who gave their services free ot charge, Other helpers were Mr D. Boyn- ; ton, Mr N. Gallagher,, Mr G. Wardlaw, Mr D. Lecker and Mr A. Bell.

The novelty dances were greatly enjoyed and as popular as usual. A Novelty Monte Carlo was won by Pte S. McConnell and Mrs McCouncil.. and a special prize was won by Miss M. Wool Held and Pte B. Wilson for the gent and lady who were lii-st 011 the iloor most times during the evening. A Monte Carlo waltz was also won by Miss Simms and Mr J. Marra. After a most enjoyable supper liad been .served by a capable ladies committee, Mr Burnett in his usual cheery manner, called on the guests Pte S. McConnell and Dvr Max Wardlaw to accept an envelope, and its contents frojn all present as a small gift in appreciation of what they had done in the past. Mr Burnett stated how wonderful it was to be able to welcome the men home from the war zones* and wished them every success and happiness and good health in the future.

The guests very suitably responded and thanked Mr Burnett and all for the gifts and most enjoyable evening; they also thanked members of the Women's Institute and other organisations for parcels sent them during their absence overseas, which were greatly appreciated.

The company then sang "For They arc Jolly Good Fellows" with great vim and three hearty cheers given. Dancing continued until the early hours of the morning and the playing of the National Anthem closed the function.
