RETURNED MEN WELCOMED

♦ EVENING AT OTAKIRI A bright evening sponsored by the Farewell and Welcome Home Committee of Otakiri was held on Saturday evening when presentations were made to Phil Cristall, Merv Cummings and George Evans, all recently returned men. Although the .inclement weather held some of the usual crowd away those who" did attend' were quite in! spirit with the proceedings and a gay atmosphere obtained throughout! the evening. Mr Oscar Lord ruled the floor in the position of M.G. once again while the Premier Dance Band supplied the music. During the evening, Mr * Murray took the opportunity to extend to the guests a hearty welcome' home while Mrs Cobden presented each, one with a pullover made by the ladies of Otakiri. *Mr Leslie then presented each man with an envelope and contents. Each of the men replied suitably. Several novelty dances were held, the popular winners of the first Monte- Carlo being M.r Merv Cummings; and Miss Ivy Bryant. The second was won by Miss Joan Miklclesen and Mr Roy Thomsett. A competition for a towel by Mrs A. Smith was won by Mr* Burnie Payne. A dainty supper was served to*-, wards the close of the evening and dancing continued till midnight.
