BASKETBALL DANCE
SUCCESSFUL EVENING LOCAL GIANTS IN ATTENDANCE A gay atmosphere reuled the floor on Friday evening at the Caledon-* ian Hall when the Whakatane Basketball Club held one of their very popular dances. A fair section of the dancing public turned out and the whole evening went with a swing from start to finish. The Premier Dance Band supplied the; music while Mr Bill Howat cap-, ably performed the duties of Master of Ceremonies. The spirit of the evening was carried out to the full, many of the basketball girls being attired in their' uniforms of gym-dresses and sand shoes and this supplied just the right atmosphere, the dance typically a basketball one. A further attraction was the presence of a number of Local Giants who, with 'Andsome Samson gaiety, vied with each other in presenting their charms to their opponents in uniform. It may here be stated that the majority of them were entirely successful. Supper was one of the* highlights of the evening, the Giants snatching the opportunity to build tip their strength once more. The fact that this was accomplished successfully was evidenced by their renewed vigour on the floot. Two Monte Carlos were held* these being won by Miss Joyce Flay and partner and Mr Colin McCreadyand Miss Joy Wilson. Two competitions were held, the popular winners of these being Mr Ivan Meyer and F/G. Neville Harris. Dancing concluded at. a late; hour, the crowd, without exception t having had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
