FARMERS' UNION
MEETING AT WAIMANA
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
A well attended meeting of Waimana and Nukuhou farmers was held recently in, the Waimana Hall for the purpose of reforming and resurrecting the semi-defunct district branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union.
Officers elected were as follows:— President: Mr J. A. Mitchell; Secretary: Mr V. C. Miller; Vice-presi-dents: Mr J. L. Burnett afrid Mr T. W. Wardlaw; Executive: Messrs G. Hewitt, R. F. Wardlaw t R. Axtens, J. G. Leather ami H. Wardlaw; Delegates: Messrs Hewitt, Leather and H. Wardlaw. Meetings It was decided to hold ome meeting per month on the first Monday of each month, to be held in £he afternoons in the months of May to September and in the. evenings of the months September to May. It was decided to include a Young Farmers Club member to serve on the Executive. Farmers' Union v D.P.A. District organisers Mr Dunning and Mr Wliyte were present and Mr Dunning gave a most interesting address, discussing such matters as amalgamation of different types of farming interests versus Federation of those interests, i.e., Farmers' Union Activities v D.P.A. Activiities. The meeting considered that the formation of other associations of fanners such as the D..P.A. etc. to be unwise, and calculated to cause just that division among farmers which would allow the present Government to smile benignly, keep the pressure on farmers and, continue to further the interests of larger and better organised sections of the community. It was gbvious that the meeting was in full knowledge; of the fact
that if farmers and property owners generally, did not wake up and do something about protecting their property and interests they would remain the. chopping block of Governments.
