POLISH RELIEF APPEAL

WHAKATANE RAISES £262

SPLENDID DISTRICT EFFORT

The. appeal organised by the Eastern Bay of Plenty Centre, N.Z. Red Cross Society on behalf of the Polish Red Cross during United Nations Week, has resulted in the splendid sum of £26 19s 9d. The Whakatane Red Cross Society raised £187 5s 3d made up as follows:—

Shop takings and Street collection, £114 7s 8d; Kopeopeo Copper Trail (Mrs Moran) £17; Junior Red Cross Copper Trail, £19 4s; Infant, School Copper Trail, £2 15s 7d; V.A.D. Dance, £12 7s 6d; Donations, £21 10s 6d. £187 5s 3d.

Donations from the other subcentrec were as follows: Awakeri, £10; Edgecumbe., £36 8s 6d; Matata, £9 6s; Taneatua, £10; Te Telco, £10.

The local branches of the Red Cross Society wish to thank very sincercly all those who helped in many ways—donations in money and kind, goods for the shop in Whakatane, and donors of raffles, as well as all the enthusiastic workers; who put. in so many hours of hard work to make, the Appeal such a success, and last, hut certainly not least, the public of Whakatane who with their usual generosity supported the worthy cause.

Visit of Miss Small

The Eastern Bay of Plenty Centre, N.Z. Red Cross Society have been advised that Miss L. Small, Director of N.Z. Junior Red Cross will be visiting Whakatane on the course of her North Island tour in the middle of August.

Although, with so much ground to cover, Miss Small's visit will, of necessity be brief, she is anxious to see as much as she can of Junior activities in the district., and hopes to visit some, of the schools.

Miss Small has been connected with the Junior Red Cross movement for many years t and her keen interest and enthusiasm have helped to put the Junior Red Cross movement on its present strong looting.
