DAIRY PRODUCTION
INCREASE IN HERDS
MORE BUTTERFAT WANTED
In response to the Government's appeal to dairy farmers for increased production, the Primary Production Council have reports from other centres, which indicate a general increase in the number of cows Intended to be milked this coming season.
The three counties in the Auckland centre show an increase l of 14 per cent over last season, while the Eastern Bay of Plenty figures only rise to 10 per cent. It may be doubtful for these figures to be maintained, when the usual incidence of throwouts are taken into account, but farmers are urged to milk every cow possible. However, given seasonal weather conditions, the other main contributing factors to l help the drive for more butterfat; namely fertiliser and labour are being catered for. About 4000 tons will come into the Council's area for that purpose and is expected to be delivered in time for spring topdressing.
The Manpower Officer has his staff fully engaged with the direction of returned servicemen as soon as their leave expires. The farming community will participate in. a large proportion of them and already numbers of nominated men are; now in positions.
If arrangements for have not yet been made., application form N.S. 209 are procurable at the Post Office and prompt attention will help the Manpower Officer In his work.
