HEALTH OFFICER'S LETTER INSPECTOR'S ACTION JUSTIFIED \ Following the exception taken by the Whakatane Borough Council to the action of the local Health Inspector in canvassing the business premises in the interests of establishing a 'rubbish collection service' in the town, the Medical Officer of Health Gisborne, has written stating that the inspector acted under ■direct instructions. A letter to the Council from the ■Health Officer stated that it was his duty to ascertain the position obtaining in the. Borough, and whether «or not the people, favoured the service. To that end he had instructed i;he inspector to act. In the meantime he was glad to note that, the f Council had taken steps to control the rubbish dump, and was likewise considering the question of • collection. Commenting on the letter at the last meeting of the Council the Mayor (Mr B. S. Barry) said, that it -did not answer the Council's letter at all. The Council's objection had been to the method employed by the Inspector in obtaining, signatories to the petition.
