TOWN RIVER BRIDGE
MENACE OF EROSION
NOBODY'S RESPONSIBILITY
Intimation that the P.W.D. failed! to consider the erosion which was taking place at the highway above the concrete bridge and at the west end of the landing reserve approaching the town, severe enoughi to warrant protection work at the present time, provoked ~* considerable comment at the Borough Council meeting last Monday evening.
"This seems to be nobody's business," said Cr Sullivan, who re- ! marked that the last, flood alone • washed three or four chains of the •country away at the approaches. Apparently the County didn't want to deal with it,, and the P.W.D. • didn't want, to deal with it either. No one could guess what would happen if another flood of the same •dimensions swept the countryside.
On Gr Sullivan's motion it was • decided to write the Minister again emphasising the seriousness of the position in that it now amounted to protecting the Main Highway ■which was under the P.W.D. control.
On Cr Armstrong's suggestion it was also decided to draw the Minister's attention to the erosion which was taking place at Landing Road. Both matters will also be brought, to the attention of the Harbour Board.
