WHAKATANE JULY MEETING
The monthly meeting of the, Whakatanc Women's. Institute was held in the Methodist Hall on Tuesday, July 4. Mrs V. Stewart presided over a good attendance of members and friends. The meeting opened with the singing of the Institute song and the aspirations were read by all,.members. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A Drama Festival is to be held in September. A donation of 5s Avas received from the District Federation for the use of the badge block. The 'Golden Thread' travel talk Avas given by Mrs Cole, on Tonga and Avas much enjoyed. Members would have liked to have heard more of the place and its people. A demonstration of Italian quilting Avas given by Mrs Norman. Several samples of the work being handed around in which much interest Avas shown. Community singing of soldiers songs Avas much enjoyed by all present. Mrs Mairs of the Blind Institute gave a very interesting address on the wbrk of the Institute and a sale of surprise pacx kcts and donations raised £6 to> help on the good work. One new member Avas welcomed. A competition 'A musical letter' was. Avon by Mrs Hepburn. The Jesuits of the monthly competition were as follows: —'A' Tin of ginger nuts for soldiers parcels: Mrs Hepburn 1; Mrs Print 2. ; I3' Six violets: Mrs Hepburn 1; Mrs Moran 2. 'C Three parsnips: Mrs Hannah 1; Mrs Stewart 2. Afternoon tea Avas served by the hostesses and the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem,
