WAIMANA BLAZE
LARGE HOUSE DESTROYED
EARLY MORNING OUTBREAK
A disastrous fire which razed tha seven roomed house belonging to Mr A. Luttrell, of Waimana, to the ground occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning last. The structure, which was entirely of wood burnt fiercely shortly after the first alarm at 3 a.m. when the-owner raised his son and daughter, Mr Stewart Luttrell and Miss A. L. Luttrell respectively and sought to save what he could of the furnishings and effects. Mrs Luttrell was away. Before retiring to bed on Friday night, members of the family no~> ticed a peculiar musty smell, but did not connect it with the possible outbreak of fire. In the early hours, Mr Luttrell senior awoke to find his room full of smoke, and flames proceeding from the" direction -of the bathroom ceiling. __ The fire, which had obviously started in tlie roof spread with amazing rapidity and the whole structure was soon a raging mass. Little or nothing could, be saved. The building and furnishings were insured in the State Office ancl in the meanwhile the family are accommodating themselves in a small cottage also on the property. The question of rebuilding is, we understand, a very moot one.
