At the meeting of the Whakatane County Council last Tuesday it was decided to appoint Mr L. Clarke, formerly relieving engineer to the Hauraki Plains County Council, to the position of assistant County Engineer to Mr C. H. Brebner, at a commencing salary of £400 per annum . In extending a welcome to Cr R.C. Leslie newly elected member for the Tarawera Riding, the chairman of the Whakatane County Council last Tuesday, said he felt sure that the district would be well served. He also took the opportunity of, moving that a letter of thanks be sent to ex Cr C. T. Smith for his work and interest during his term of office.
