WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT EDGECUMBE FOURTEENTH ANNIVERSARY Edgecumbe Women's Institute June meeting took the form of a birthday party to' celebrate the 14th anniversaiy of the forming of the Institute. Mrs Ilodson presided and welcomed visitors from Otakiri and Whakatane and many other visitors were brought by members. The. hall had been attractively decorated in orange and-green, the Institute col-f ours, and bowls of flowers. Competitions were Avon by Mrs Crang and Mrs Cole. A one act play "Good Neighbours" was presented by Mrs Flavel, Mrs Malpas and Miss mcnt and was heartily applauded. Mrs Shaw sang "The Stranger of: Galilee" in her usual pleasing manner. Shoulder sprays Avcre presented to foundation members of. the Institute and dainty posies and small gifts AA r ere presented to Mrs Cole and Mrs Moodj' Avho are leaving the district. A dainty afternoon tea Avas served by the committee. The birthday cake which AA'as made by Mrs Martin and iced by Mrs Crang, was then cut by Mrs Dunning of Otakiri, after the candles had been lit by Mrs Goldsmith. The afternoon: concluded with the National Anthem. Competitions for the month Averc Avon as follows: Bottled Pears,, Mrs S. Pear.se. I; Mrs Snelling 2; Mrs FlaA'el 3. Winter decoration, M.rs Malpas 1; Mrs Snelling 2; Mrs Fhwcl 3. Best flower, Mrs Crang 1; Mrs Wilson 2: Mrs Rountree 3. Mittens, Mrs Snelling 1. Collection \7egetables, Mil's Malpas 1.
