FAREWELL GATHERING

CONSTABLE THOMASSSEN ON TRANSFER A small gathering consisting of Sergeant Farrell, Mr T. Morgan (Clerk of Court), Mr T. J. Cummings, J.P. r the Court Staff, and a few intimate friends met at the Police Station on Thursday Evening for the purpose of farewelling Constable TJiomassen, who is to take over the Taneatua station, Constable Rice having been transferred. Constable Thomassen was presented with a wallet of notes as a token of goodwill and appreciation. Sergeant Farrell spoke of the able assistance rendered him by the departing guest during his stay in Whakatane. but was glad that he was not actually leaviig the district. Mr Morgan endorsed the remarks of the previous speaker and added his own good wishes hoping that Constable Thomassen would have every success in his new station at Taneatua. Mr Cummings also added his tribute. of recognition and appreciation. Constable Thomassen replied suitably thanking the speakers for their kind remarks and the gift presented to him. He left Whakatane on Friday and took over his new station on Saturday morning.
